  • January 31, 2008 A masterpiece

The Strauss Andante is widely recognized as a masterpiece of late romantic music. French horn players are profoundly fortunate that this composer wrote for our instrument - something he didn't do for other instrumental soloists. The harmonic and thematic nature of the piece reflects the pinnacle of romantic compositional style...

and is difficult to grasp for anyone less than highly advanced players. The fact that this piece is slow has mislead many to think that it must be easy music. It's actually quite difficult to perform successfully. Both the hornist and the pianist must be highly advanced musicians. But the music is divine!

  • January 02, 2008 It doesn't sound like Strauss

It doesn't sound like Strauss, it's much more modern. it's relatively short, 1 page, but it has very little tonal coherence. there's no good theme in it.
