    Difficulty Level:
  • April 25, 2008 The transciptions are mediocre at best.

Transciptions are dangerous things because you are taking a musical fragment out of context giving it to another instrument then trying to make it all work. Transcriptions of music written during the Baroque times and earlier is easy because the composers tended to write for multiple interchangeable instruments so a...

violin could play a flute part or an oboe part etc. But the music of the 19th century became much more instrument specific so transciptions become much more suspect and noticeable. This book is a fine example of the problems with transcribing more modern music. The flute part just isn't inspiring.
