Agnus Dei from the Polish Requiem for eight-part choir was written after the death of the Primate of the Polish Catolic Church Stefan Wyszynski. It is slow in tempo, supplicatory in nature and quasi-tonal. The focused, saturated harmony and enhanced continuity of musical narration create an atmosphere of prayerful commermoration. The expressive culmination follows the words peccata mundi.

This piece is without the most difficult song I have performed in a choir, as well as the most beautiful. This very modern piece makes great use of dissonance (After all, it is Penderecki) to display the angst that the composer felt when writing this piece. This song absolutely must...

be performed by talented and well trained singers or else control of the song's fragile beauty is lost. Definitely for only the most advanced choirs.
