We sang this with my seminary choir as the sequence hymn for the Gospel procession the first week of Easter. The congregation asked if we could repeat it every week of the Easter season they loved it so much.Hampton has written a simple melody that is shared at some...

time or another in each of the vocal parts. The sopranos and tenors alternate singing a descant that soars above the other lines. Because the melody is carried by at least one vocal part through the whole piece we were able to teach the congregation the melody and they sang along. The vocal parts weave together nicely so that they play off of one another. The piece sounds like a river that starts as a trickle and ends with a cascading waterfall of sound. I loved this piece so much I have downloaded a choir's version of it and play it at home now.

This lovely piece as I first heard it performed by the Yale Camarata Choir inspired me to bring it to the attention of my choir director in Lebanon, Ohio. As it builds to a crescendo of joy, it becomes rapturous. We are singing it at our Easter service this week...

. My review is entirely prejudiced as the composer, Calvin Hampton. is my brother.
