Chorus and the New England Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, Randall Thompson conducting. The words are from Psalm 107, a paen of thankfulness. The work begins with an instrumental chorale prelude based on Johann Cruger's "Nun danket" and ends with the same. In my opinion, this is one of Thompson's very best works, and it is tragic that it has rarely, if ever, been performed since. Equally tragic is that I have not been able to find it recorded on tape or CD. I hope very much that someone will do so. I would be willing to help financially underwrite such an effort.
