This arrangement was written for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in 1985 and has been extensively programmed on Holiday programs throughout the United States and in Europe. The original version was scored for SATB chorus and large orchestra. No soloists.

The following six carols appear, without interruption, in this manner:
Gloucester Wassail
Il est nee, le divin enfant (French / English)
O Come, O Come Emanuel (Latin / English)
The Holly and the Ivy
God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen
We Wish You a Merry Christmas

The original, full orchestration (3333 / 4331, timp, 3 perc, hp, stgs), as well as a reduced orchestration (2121 / 2220, 2 perc, hp, stgs) are available for this work on a rental-only basis. Neither of these accompaniments requires organ.
A recording of this work is included on the Kodanja Records album A Feast of Carols, featuring the National Symphony of London and the Tallis Chamber Choir, conducted by the arranger.
