Weber wrote Andante e Rondo ungarese per l'Alto Viola Solo with Gran Orchestra for his brother Fritz in Ludwigsburg. At the end of his manuscript there is the remark: 'Completed the 18th of October 1809'. Later he 'completely recast' the piece for bassoon, as he wrote. Friedrich Wilhelm Jahns, a researcher of outstanding merit, discovered the score of the Viola Concerto with the Berlin Kapellmeister Semler, who had inherited it from his father, the famous violist Franz Xaver Semler. This first publication is based on Weber's autograph preserved at the Berlin State Library.
