Written in 1920, the ballet Pulcinella by Igor Stravinsky began the composer’s neoclassical period. The music of 18th century Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi served as the music's inspiration. The Serenata has a hauntingly beautiful melody with an expressive piano accompaniment. It can be played on oboe, flute, violin or any C instrument.
