This is the 1st movement, PRELUDE, from the Pieces de viole Livre III in G Major by Marin Marais, written in 1711.

The download includes two versions.

1) for cello solo and basso continuo (can be played by cello 2)

2) for 2 equal cello solos

Music is transposed to the bass and tenor clefs for ease of reading by cellists and bassists.

The original ornamentation is transferred from the manuscript.

Some notes have been redistributed to suit the string arrangement of the cello.

This beautiful Prelude is 2 minutes long.
