ClaudeDebussy's famous Clair de lune is the third piece of the Suite bergamasque forpiano. The Suite, originally composed in 1890 but revised between then and itspublication in 1905, is the first real flowering of Debussy's genius for pianomusic. Its name comes from Verlaine's poem "Clair de lune",which means "moonlight" in French. It is writtenin 9/8 meter, marked andantetrès expressif, and to be played mostly pianissimo.
Thisarrangement for 8 woodwinds, glockenspiel, vibraphone, xylophone and harp (orpiano) aims to bring out the dreamy, serene and mildly Impressionisticcharacteristic of the original work by exploring the vibrant musical colours ofthis unusual combination of instruments.
