"Escamas" was written for the PanAmerican Trio (Laurel Swinden, Brielle Frost and Sini Rueda) to be premiered at the 2018 National Flute Association Convention in Orlando, FL.

"Escamas" is Spanish for "fish scales". The work is inspired by the iconography of the Moche and ChimĂș civilizations, which dominated the northern coast of present-day Peru from the II. to the XII. centuries.

Specifically, I was inspired by depictions of sea creatures, both real and mythical, as well as depictions of maritime activities such as sailing and fishing. These depictions are mostly found on pottery, as well as on walls in archeological sites of the mentioned civilizations.

The work is scored for three C-Flutes.
