This arrangement for wind trio explores the traditional haunting lullaby with tinges of sadness, lightness, and beauty. In Variation 1, the standard melody is enhanced with embellishments and accompanied by arpeggios in the third voice. Variation 2 is a steady swing in 6/8 time. Variation 3 is a rhythmic section that feels somewhat like a Scottish reel. Variation 4 is light and sprightly, with all voices playing eighth notes in unison. Variation 5 ends the piece as a soft, pretty finale. This arrangement is best suited for advanced musicians.
