The Happy Marriage is a Playford English Country Dance tune from the supplement to the 9th edition (9A) of Playford's Dancing Master (1696). It is in D minor and in 6/4 time. I have kept the original key and arranged this tune as a trio for alto recorder, tenor recorder, and violin with optional guitar. It can also be played on two flutes and violin. The melody alternates between alto recorder (or flute 1) and violin.The Happy Marriage would make a lovely wedding processional, and if played at an upbeat tempo, could also serve as a recessional. For the MP3 audio sample, the faster version is provided here. The Happy Marriage makes delightful background music for a reception or a tea. Students will likewise enjoy this arrangement as a recital piece.
