If you ever played the viola before, you know what a joy it is to actively participate in making music. Well, that is what this book is all about. First and foremost we want you to have fun! We have designed this book to include a wide variety of songs in many different styles, just for the fun of making music. I Used To Play Viola also contains many exercises and pieces designed for the adult musician to re-learn skills that may have been learned many years ago. It begins with a review of important musical terms and music theory followed by exercises and pieces that reintroduce the string player to using the instrument and the bow. The techniques covered are basic to playing easy orchestral and chamber music. The pieces cover a broad range of styles and are generally familiar to most people who have been involved in listening to music through the years. Practice some of the technical exercises and then turn to one of the pieces you would like to play and try reading it. If the piece you have selected has a technique that you are not sure of, try to find that technique in the opening pages of the book and practice it as an exercise. You can also listen to the piece and play along with the track that is played by a viola and piano and in some cases, other fun accompaniment instruments. When you become sure of yourself, you can try playing with the accompaniment track without the melody. I Used To Play Viola is not a beginners book. If you are new to playing an instrument we suggest that you obtain a beginners book and a teacher. After you have mastered the basics you can then come back to the material in the I Used To Play Viola book. Remember to have fun and enjoy making music!
