Nikolai Kapustin Sheet Music
About Nikolai Kapustin
(b. 1937) Ukraine
Kapustin is a Russian composer and pianist. He made his first attempt to compose a piano sonata at age 13. During the 1950s, he acquired a reputation as a jazz pianist, arranger, and composer. His work is steeped in both the traditions of classical virtuoso pianism and improvisational jazz. Using jazz idioms in formal classical structures, he is known to fuse these influences in his compositions. An example of this are his 24 Preludes and Fugues op. 82, which are modelled on baroque suites such as composed by J.S. Bach.
