Joanne Martin is a composer, teacher and performer, originally from Winnipeg, Canada. Currently she divides her time between Canada and France. Her career has touched numerous aspects of the musical community, both in North America and overseas.

As a violist, she has played in many orchestras and chamber groups, including the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and the Concertante Chamber Players. In addition to the viola, her principal instrument, she plays violin, cello, bass, piano and button accordion.

Joanne Martin's experience as an educator includes teaching Suzuki violin and viola at all levels, coaching chamber music and directing orchestras. She is recognized as a Suzuki Teacher Trainer by the Suzuki Association of the Americas and by the European Suzuki Association. Her involvement with the Suzuki movement began shortly after her graduation from the University of Winnipeg. Joanne has served on the Board of directors of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. In 2007, she was the winner of the American Suzuki Institute Suzuki Chair Award for outstanding contributions in the field of Talent Education. She is in demand as a guest clinician and has taught, lectured and performed at numerous Suzuki workshops across North America, Australia and Europe.

As a composer and arranger, Joanne Martin's best-known publications are from the I Can Read Music series, which is widely used internationally and considered the standard beginning note-reading method for Suzuki students. Her other publications include the popular Festive Strings and the Folk String series, ViolaFest, Trio Tapestry and Playing with Style. Her latest series, Magic Carpet, is a set of performance pieces for the youngest beginners.
